Nanogong is a neat internal audio recorder that has two parts - a recorder inside the HTML/WYSIWYG editor and an activity whereby each student has to record in their browser a piece of audio for submission and grading.
Jason has tested it with one school and it works fairly well as an activity but the recorder inside the HTML editor in Moodle 1.9.3 had some bugs, namely when the webpage resource used for the recording was saved only some browsers showed the link to the audio. Another limitation with version 3 of Nanogong is that it doesn't write to the gradebook for Moodle 1.9.x as reported by the developers. Hopefully they will rectify this in the future as grades are a pivotal aspect of any activity in Moodle.
Adrian hasn't tested it himself but he does know of a big university in Finland that uses it. This could be a good tool for teachers to provide audio feedback to students on assignments when grading (as long as the HTML editor loads). It of course has other applications as well, seems easy to use and enables all users to record their voice within Moodle as an activity. An alternative to the Audio Recorder module which has some limitations as well.
This is a fairly stable module that could suit subjects requiring audio functionality inside the browser.
Overall Rating: (3.5 stars)
