Cronulla High School and Cathie Cashmere hosted the 26th Sydney Moodle User Group. It was the first event for the year and we had a large number of people in attendance. The night was full of demonstrations, questions and of course answers.
The following notes were taken at the Sydney Moodle User Group 26 event at Cronulla High School
Cathie Cashmere created a LiveBinder for the night. To view the some of the websites that were viewed on the night, go to the LiveBinders Website
Jason Hando gave a demonstration of Moodle 2.0:
- Files are treated differently in 2.0
- All users have their own personal files section i.e. staff and students
- The administrator settings are huge! Hence the need for collaspible menus
- Upgrade suggestion: Use a technician and do it slowly.
- View what version of MYSQL and PHP your current Moodle 1.9 Install is running by selecting the Server Settings - PHP Info in the Site Administration menu. This will enable you to check if your current Moodle Installation has the required PHP and MYSQL settings that Moodle 2.0 requires
Danielle Breckon gave a demonstration on the Conditional Activities Feature of Moodle 2.0:
- Benefits of Conditional Activities is that you can differentiate the learning paths of each student which will assist with ‘individual learning plans’
- The activity that you have set with ‘conditional activities’ can be hidden so that the student/s do not know it has to be completed. The student who has to complete this will only know that it has to be completed.
- Conditions can be based on dates, grades obtained (less then or high then certain grade) or activity completion (must be marked complete).
- Two settings you need to turn on for Conditional Activities to be available. Go to the Site Administration menu then click on Advanced Features then tick the checkbox: enable completion tracking and enable conditional access.
- Set the conditions of the activity in each activity under the Restrict Access settings.
